最近这个家伙红得要死，连 NPR 也做了条新闻报道：

Anthony Horowitz 出版了“官方授权” 的续集长篇小说 "The House of Silk." 我还没看，不过对他比较有信心，因为很喜欢他写的电视剧系列 "Foyle's War."

BBC 电视剧要等过年后才能播出，眼下的 Guy Ritchie 电影版真是 ... 难看。其实电影第一集我倒并不反感，但是第二集实在是太扯了，原著的元素也几乎没有。里面让我腹诽的地方很多，最大的败笔之一是让 Watson 目击 Holmes 跟教授一起落入 Reichenbach Falls。

1891年，Doyle 医生虽然有心把 Holmes 写死，但关键时刻留了一手，The Final Problem 令众福迷纠结不休，且给大家无限发挥想象力的肥沃土壤。最妙的一笔是 Professor Moriarty 虽然是 “欧洲最危险的人” ，黑帮组织幕后大 boss，但在小说里却从未留下目击者，不仅没有华生医生的第一手印象，连个旁证目击者都无，全靠福尔摩斯一个人的旁白，增添无穷神秘感，也留下无限隐患，于是无数后来者从各个角度填补懒医生留下的空白，给 Moriarty 及党羽补传。

例如，不止一人提出 Professor Moriarty 并不存在的假设。正因为福尔摩斯与教授的相似/镜像之处，令不少人假设教授是福尔摩斯的黑暗面，是他的罪恶本能的投射，或者分裂人格。换言之，福尔摩斯是 Dr. Jekyll，教授是 Mr. Hyde。更有人把 Moriarty 的 identify 派到其他人物头上，例如 Irene Adler。相信教授坠落后未死的读者大有人在。

最近正在读一本 Kim Newman 的福尔摩斯外传，乃是 Colonel Sebastian Moran 留下的第一人称回忆录，记述他作为聪明绝顶智慧过人的教授的助手，一起经历的种种冒险事件。非常 ... 搞笑，但又惟妙惟肖。结尾处提出另一假设：教授坠入 Reichenbach Falls 不是打架打不过，而是被怀恨在心的 Moran 远程射击打下去的，说得倒也有鼻子有眼。

除了侦探小说界无穷无尽的模仿和发展之外，纯文学界宠儿 Michael Chabon 和 Fantasy 小说界楚翘 Neil Gaiman 也都写过福尔摩斯外传。

最近出版了一本小说集 "A Study in Sherlock"，很多著名现代侦探小说家客串一段短篇 Sherlock Holmes:

丑闻/Adler/疑似恋爱的情节的确得派给 Moffat 来写，不能给 Gatiss 来写。

Kim Newman 和 Moffat 不约而同地选中了 Belgravia 社区来替代 Bohemia。引用一段小说开头：

看了 Stephen Fry 肚腩大叔在电影里牺牲色相，我还以为 Gatiss 兄也会不甘人后，没想到他自己不露，顺手把小弟给卖了。

电影一就让我非常厌恶，电影二的最新影评为all action no story，拜托别乱挂Sherlock Holmes的招牌好不好。

圣诞电视风起云涌的有好多Charles Dickens内容，电影有之，纪录片更有之。可惜我对Dickens完全不感冒。

对了，哪里看到在拍Ruskin老婆Effie的传记电影（后来与Millais结婚的那位），Emma Thompson编剧。

昨天Times Magazine关于Sherlock的一篇专访：

Their delight in the show’s set is palpable. They fly around showing off Holmes’s collection of 240 different kinds of tobacco ash, Holmes’s bust of Goethe. In this series, we see Holmes’s bedroom for the first time – I note it has an en suite bathroom, and is very tidy. (“Holmes is the kind of flatmate who would keep his room tidy by throwing all his mess out into the front room,” Moffat notes.)

I bounce on the bed a bit. I feel I owe all of womankind this action. I refrain from sniffing the pillowcase. That feels undignified.

The level of nerd-detail is high: there are 17 steps up from the hall to the front room, as specified in the books. The Christmas cards in the hallway have all been filled out inside, to the landlady, Mrs Hudson. On the set, however, there are no actual quarters for Mrs Hudson.

“She doesn’t have a room,” Gatiss explains. “She just… stands at the end of this corridor, and hibernates until the front door bell rings.”

12月试映的反响很好

the new series of Sherlock looks like a love affair with possibility and ambition: visually dazzling and vibrating with unexpected neural leaps, it spends half its time being the funniest show on TV, and then casually cracks your heart, right across the centre. And, oh, the sheer brightness. I have seen audiences clap for things that move them, or make them laugh – but this is the first time I have ever seen a plot-point so clever and unexpected that it prompts a whole room to applaud it.

粉丝们能中立公平地评价Sherlock剧集的可能性较小，看试映的票子炒到五六百镑一张就知道了。不过我对目前的剧组很有信心，嘿嘿嘿。

The House of Silk听了上半部分，情节曲折抓人。时代气氛和语言把握得比较准确，原著里一些经常出现的元素比如伦敦的阴暗角落，美国黑帮，复仇，奇怪姻缘都有出现，福迷熟悉的种种小细节点缀穿插其中，很亲切但不给人重复之感（这点上Death Comes to Pemberly就很糟糕）。Derek Jacobi的朗读极其精彩，如果有机会不要错过。

听完了，最后几章高潮迭起，除了几点我早就猜到的线索外，也有不少令人惊奇的转折。虽然个别场景进展缓慢，总的来说节奏明快，最后收得也干净，没有留下多少loose ends。值得推荐。

据说Anthony Horowitz开写之前给自己定了十条准则，我很赞同

1. No over-the-top action
2. No women
3. There would be no gay references either overt or implied in the relationship between Holmes and Watson
4. No walk-on appearances by famous people
5. No drugs – at least, none to be taken by Sherlock Holmes
6. Do the research. Try to get the details right
7. Use the right language
8. Not too many murders
9. Include all the best-known characters – but try and do so in a way that will surprise
10. When publicizing the book, never, ever be seen wearing a deerstalker hat or smoking a pipe

It seems to me that the appeal of the books has much more to do with character, the friendship of Holmes and Watson, the extraordinary and very rich world they inhabit and the genuine and often under-rated excellence of Conan Doyle’s writing, a touch melodramatic at times but still very much in the tradition of gothic romance. When I was asked to write The House of Silk, I realized that this would be the key.

跟我对 Dr. Doyle 的印象是一样滴！

其实写“正版续集”是非常吃力不讨好的事，作者必须压抑自己的 ego 和风格，完全沉浸在原作者的风格语气中。Christopher Foyle 跟福尔摩斯颇有点相似之处，除了“绝对镇定绝对可靠”的特点之外，Foyle 的低调但是稳定的正义感也让人对续集福尔摩斯放心。

A Scandal in Belgravia刚播完。看完后的最大感想居然是：感动！Moffat真了不起，这集与前三集一脉相承地快节奏，内容却毫不雷同，水准肯定超出Pink和Banker。自然少不了大量的跳跃推理和John的冷幽默，很多fun factors，笔墨花得最多的却是情感戏：Sherlock与John，与Mycroft，与Irene Adler，甚至Mrs Hudson。我现在还不能确定Moffat赋予Sherlock如此多的情感是否明智，看是看得极其过瘾。前面女记者说有义务代表全国女性在Sherlock的床上bounce一下，Moffat似乎派了Irene Adler代表全世界的粉丝去探索Sherlock的内心世界，顺便调调情

熟悉原作的读者也不会失望，许多小细节用得非常巧妙，象The Geek Interpreter，哈哈哈。相比之下，游泳池边的cliffhanger解决得比较弱。

网上的评论已经大量出炉，不怕剧透的同学可以去看看。Guardian上这句我很同意，所以明天得再复习一遍A Scandal in Belgravia。

It's very complicated, I find at times. I'm totally with Martin Freeman's John Watson when he says at one point: "What happened there?"

下一集里会出现的人物？

这集里Adler绝对是主角，Watson只能退居二线，不过百忙之中还不忘声明： “For the record, not that anyone cares, but I'm not gay.” 笑死了。

昨天Sunday Times上的访谈也提到这个：

Watson's right. Nobody cares what he says — the internet has already decided. In fact, from the minute Sherlock appeared, the instant audience conclusion was that Holmes and Watson were lovers. Cumberbatch and Freeman have been dealing with the fallout ever since, in part with good humour, in part with mild exasperation. “Much as Sherlock adores John, and he's fond of him, there's no love, there's nothing sexual — all the jokes aside,” Cumberbatch says. “The problem is, they [the jokes in the script] fuel the fantasy of the few into flames for the many. People presume that's what it is, but it's not.”

“If you want to think that they're secretly in love with each other, then you can,” Freeman says. “But we've never played anything like that. I don't really think they are, but there's enough of that for people to see it if they want. I think they're just really interested in each other because they give something to the other that is lacking in their life.”

Moffat和Gattis肯定乐着呢，种种ambiguity（包括Adler和Sherlock之间的暧昧）还不是他们故意写出来逗观众玩儿的。

说实话我有点担心 Moffat 把福尔摩斯当成 Coupling 来写。

Must admit I'm slightly disappointed that Adler is English, not American. Tsk, tsk, Steven, what's up with that?

Mr. McGuigan has outdone himself. Excellent and original scene transitions.

I'm very glad they've abandoned that "sociopath" nonsense and given us back the kind, protective, and vengeful Holmes of the canon.

Maybe because I did not watch the episode straight through in one sitting (had to cook lunch), the plot doesn't seem overly complicated to me.

It's obvious that they have decided to evolve the character of Sherlock. Not enough John, though.

I slightly wish they hadn't got the story mixed up with 恐怖主义 stuff. It's fine to be contemporary, but this is a bit too contemporary for me.

The ending is a bit of a letdown. I mean, yeah, we all know women love Holmes, but Moffat is a heterosexual man after all, and his treatment of intelligent woman cannot escape the conventions of male fantasy and projection of men's primal fear and anxiety.

One of the reasons for Sherlock Holmes' enduring power lies in his flexibility to allow people project their own feelings and needs into his mirror. This episode reveals a whole lot about Steven Moffat, who is a very smart and accomplished man married to a smart and powerful woman. I wonder what Sue Vertue thinks about it.

片头曲中有一个镜头是野外的，说明下一集 Hound 的确会有野外戏而不是限于伦敦城里。果然是没法在城里的大街小巷搞这个故事。

Moffat 显然已经表明他的立场：
John - Not gay;
Sherlock - Virgin;
Mycroft - Gay;
("What are we doing here? ... To see the queen?" "Apparently.")
Adler - Gay but unable to resist the sexy male lead character.

(Ah, the ultimate male fantasy, ie, to convert the smart lesbian dominatrix into an obedient and devoted kitten. She submits to no man but the only one who represents the author. So thought Steig Larsson, too.)

Got a complaint about the music. A bit heavy handed.

The plot, once one has time to think it through, is not complicated, it's the pace of development and dialogue that dazzles people (me at least). They slightly overdid the human and sentimental side: kissing Molly Hooper? playing "I Wish you a Merry Christmas" for Mrs Hudson? The Holmes brothers' chat in the morgue is truer to their characters: "Caring is not an advantage"

Hound will be shot in Dartmoor, the original setting.

Lestrade should have more screen time next episode I hope! "Exactly how many times did he fall out of the window?"

说起来这集给出的讯息有点confusing，也许编剧大人从来就不喜欢黑白分明，模棱两可着才有趣。Moffat坚持这不是个恋爱故事："just two magnificent predators circling each other in dark and terrible fascination"，一方面呢又给Sherlock加上很多人性化的色彩。Irene失踪后Sherlock的迷惘显而易见，连ice man Mycroft都注意到了，大家不断对“失恋青年”表示同情。用John在blog里的话来说：

She's gone and he won't dare admit it but he's devastated. He can't show it and I don't think he understands what he's feeling. Sometimes he's so cut off from everything, so cold, so lacking in emotion that when he does feel something... well I think it's the one thing on this planet he'll never quite get.

这个something究竟是什么呢？

幸好只有一个Irene Adler，接下去的系列里观众不需要再为Sherlock的情感世界操心了。

前半段还好，后半段塞满了 Adler 内容，把其他人的戏都挤光了。Sherlock 的迷惘（心碎？）是知道她死了之后，加上她复活之后，尤其是音乐搞得特响，使劲烘托制造感情效果。

另外昨晚看了第二遍之后发现这一集的时间线有点乱，Adler 第一次出现，闹腾一段儿照片丑闻然后消失，按照 Blog 上的记录是九月中旬，忽然就跳到了圣诞节，当晚出现尸体，然后新年又活了回来，然后再次出现躺在 Holmes 床上似乎是六个月之后，因为她在后面跟 Mycroft 有一句对话 "I left the phone with Sherlock Holmes for 6 months." 而 Sherlock 提起他在银行开了保险箱也是“几个月前”。她第一次跑掉的时候，相机电话并未留给 Holmes，而是自己拿走了，这等于说她新年复活之后又等了半年才重新出现，隔得太久了吧？时间拉得这么长第一没必要第二逻辑不通。Adler 的相机如果真的对她那么重要（没有保护伞她活不了六个月），她怎么可能放心把相机交给别人（哪怕是她的梦情）六个月？而且福尔摩斯要是能开锁半天就开了，开不了也半天就知道了，何必罗罗嗦嗦开上半年？

这一集里的 Irene Adler 沿袭了无数后续小说的无敌性感女魔头形象（例如 Kim Newman 版也是这么写的），而跟原著里的 Adler 形象毫无连续性，有时候我觉得 Moffat 看原著没有 Gatiss 那么仔细。但是 Moffat 比较搞笑，例如偷烟灰缸一段。感情么，细微的地方我觉得略可接受，记得原著某篇里提到福尔摩斯有时候会应 Mrs. Hudson 要求拉一段好听的曲子。猛谈恋爱有点不太 English 的感觉。

有人问结尾是怎么回事，小福神通广大地跑到卡拉奇救美女去了？我几乎要回答，不，他是坐电话亭跑去的。

第二遍仔细地看了一下那些衣领和脸上的下字幕，发现除了第一次（白金汉宫派人来，有三条狗）的推理还算有点根据之外，后面的大多数是随手乱写的，什么衣领上能看出对方是 tea-drinking，Watson 的眼袋表明他昨晚跟 Stamford 喝酒，真是扯远了，

所以这些字幕越出越快，一晃而过。

开始剧透了，要不要提醒下还没看过的小K等同学？

和Stamford出去喝酒倒很容易猜，新牙膏什么的就比较费解了，不过原著里的有些推论也很天马行空嘛。这集Doctor Who的气息重过Coupling，比如Sherlock和Irene穿越到野外去分析案情那场。手机不是给Mycroft收走了，那么最后一条消息从哪个电话发出的，怎么铃声和前面几十条一模一样？

总的来讲，Gattis编剧的故事线更加清晰，Moffat更擅长幽默。乱谈恋爱很不English，乱谈感情其实也不是，所以谈一集够了，下面别谈了罢。

对啊，是漏洞哎。我本来假设 Mycroft 把电话里的内存都清光之后，电话又还给她了，但是如果这样电话怎么会又回到 Mycroft 手上？

其实这年头谁还把信息存在具体的物件上啊？存在云里才是随时随地在手边呢。

想来想去，Moffat所谓的non love story真的很象恋爱故事，不过如Guardian上有位读者评论的，他写女性角色实在不太擅长。

Holmes' lack of social skills and emotional connection with other people was laid starkly bare in that scene (按：推断Molly新男友一节）. In many ways this episode was about Sherlock having to learn that, deep down, he's still a human being despite how little he wants to be.

Sherlock knew how to beat Adler because they shared the same "weakness". The Great Detective wouldn't admit it but it was clear to John Watson, for one, that despite his generally disdaining sex and emotional attachment, that he had fallen for "the woman" even if he hadn't the guts to admit it, just as she had fallen for him.

Although I think Moffat can be quite poor with female characters Adler was one of the best villains the series has produced so far. Like Moriarty she was a match for Holmes intellectually, unlike Moriarty (well, as far as we know) Holmes was attracted to her and it was believable that he would think her something of a soulmate (doubtless explaining the ending). For all Holmes smugness about her sentimentality letting her down, in reality he reached the solution because he realised his feelings for her were requited. It was the first time I think an episode of Sherlock could be described as having at its heart a touching love story about two people who like to think they don't fall in love.

很遗憾作为一个恋爱故事这个实在很一般。把 Adler 写成这样的女魔头不仅很 male fantasy 而且 been there done that a thousand times。想搞 Basic Instinct，但又不够劲爆，发发 "Let's dinner" 短信，跟十几岁的中学女生一样，连大学都没上，算做 "one of the best villains" 实在是过誉了。

我觉得很讽刺啊很讽刺，在小说原著里 Irene Adler 是一个聪明、自立、很有原则、感情收放自如的女人，决不是什么 villain，但是在后代所有的仿福作中她被一窝蜂地写成坏人，没见过例外的。而且不止一次地被写成 lesbian dominatrix who uses sex as a weapon，连我喜欢的 Law and Order: Criminal Intent 都把 Adler 和 Moriarty 两个形象捏合为一，可见这类女人是男人的终极噩梦。

我个人对Sherlock系列中Moriaty的不满远超出对Irene Adler的，不过同意你的观点，Moffat版的Irene相比原著的Irene是个倒退。

无论如何，A Scandal in Belgravia比近期所有的Dickens、Austen改编都强好几倍。I'll be Mother - That's our childhood in a nutshell，这种精彩的对话没几个人写得出来。

I adore Mark Gatiss' Mycroft.

Although I quite love Stephen Fry too, including the gratuitous nudity. So much love has been showered onto this character.

I think this Moriarty is OK but not as good as he could be. He does have that lizard-y oscillating head thing going, but he is too short and not very scary. The swimming pool resolution was too light-hearted and too silly, almost flirtatious. Also the criminal organization is still not very convincing. The stories provided an omninous sense of a vast and interconnected underground mafia in England and on the continent with very very few mentions. Perhaps this point will be expanded in the Reichenbach episode.

第二集名为The Hounds of Baskerville，而不是The Hound of the Baskervilles，那么至少有一条以上的狗。刚出了两分钟的trailer，关键词包括army base和lab，基本框架已经可以想象了。

英国以外连 trailer 也没法看。

角色名字很忠实哦，Dr. Stapleton! Dr. Mortimer!

Gatiss 的 Twitter 头像也换成了 Hound 镜头。

这帮家伙还是很用心的，John Watson Blog的The Aluminium Crutch一篇里，Sidney Paget这个名字似曾相识，一查，当初给Strand杂志Sherlock Holmes连载画插图的就是Sidney Paget！还有，The Speckled Blonde的犯罪手法与House of Silk中的某个情节极其相似，不知是否故意安排的（Gatiss给这本小说写过书评）。

I noticed that too. 这一集里有几个地方为了前后呼应或者搭上原著 references 甚至对电视迷挤眉弄眼，略有点生硬。在这里为了呼应前面的 beg for mercy，其实游离人物性格，Watson 对小福有求必应，一个内存早已洗空的电话有什么干系，而且“留个定情物”的调调整体看来有点过火了我觉得。

我觉得有可能是巧合。去年我也考虑过怎样重写 Speckled Band 故事，想来想去只有 poison 一条路可走。

Gatiss给这本小说写过书评。

感谢提供连接，我看了一下笑死了，Gatiss 真是典型的 Holmes geek 口吻。MoffGat 之间我对他比较偏心，还不是因为心属他那派 geek 党的。

I noticed that too. Didn't like it.

I'm not so keen on it either, however, it could be Moffat's way of trying to keep the game result even. After all, in the orignal story Adler won, not Holmes.
