Let me do the math... ok not so much as math as personal financial analysis.

Allen is the great-grandson of slaves who was raised a Democrat in a poor Washington neighborhood = "No Old Money"

His wife home schools their four children = "Single Income Family"

He rode those ideologies up through positions in state and federal government .... Allen, 45, had resigned from his $161,000-a-year job as Bush's domestic policy adviser. = "Government job all his life, and yearly income reached the max of $161,000 last year"

recently moved to a nearly $1 million home in the Maryland suburbs =====? 1 million dollar house after 20% down payment on current rate of 6.375% 30 years mortgate is monthly payment of $6036.86 monthly payment and that is 45% of his pretax salary,
or 67% of his after tax salary (at 33% tax bracket ).

Either some bank did him a huge favor, or he had other source of income. And it had better be stealing from Target.

his scam was to buy items, take them to his car, then return to the store with his receipt. He would select the same items, then take them to the store return desk and show the receipt from the first purchase to get a refund. ”

:uhh:

不象汽车,每个各有ID(VIN)。

20% of 1 million is 200k, not a small downpayment to start with.
If they bought a moderate house of 150k 15 years ago, and just sold half million. After paying off the mortgate on that house, broker fee and sales tax, new mortgage closing cost and everything, they might end with 300k to 400k cash. Say they paid 300k in down payment, monthly payment is still $5282 , 40% of pretax income; 400k in down payment, monthly payment is $4527, 33% of prextax income. 33% pretax income + other fix expenses like reale state tax, health insurance, food and gas, etc, is way above the recommanded ration. Banker will common sense will not grant a loan like that.

Why he need to pay 20% down payment? He can pay as little as 0 to 5% of down payment as many of the american family did.

He could pay 5% but then his monthly mortgage payment to income ratio will be even more ridiculously high, and the bank should not have granted a dangerous mortgate like that because he should not have that kind of credit.

When I first a wind of "trying to get refunds on items he hadn't bought at a Target store", I though he buy stuff from Walmat and return to target to get the price difference.

Man, this is no abusing of return policy , but a form of robbery !

:super:
